Cat Askew

Artist Statement
Cat Askew makes art that doesn’t take itself too seriously, using discarded materials as she
enjoys the challenge of turning something old into something groovy. She prefers to re-use
objects and considers the environmental impact of her art. She uses embroidery, collage and
paints random objects.
Cat uses bold, mostly “girly*, colours and typography in her work, whilst injecting a bit of well-
mannered hilanty. Her work provides alternatives to and comments on societal norms, from the
appearance. Her motivations are to draw attention to these issues and to spread cheer.
Cat studied Fine Art & Art History at Plymouth University, graduating in 2017.
Lockdown life gave her the time to start making again, and now she is determined to unleash her
work upon the ouble. Sne lves and works in porsmn, In ne son and
