Statement
I trained at The Ipswich Art School, followed by Wimbledon College of Art (London UK) & PGCE Cert Ed University of Portsmouth
Early childhood was spent on the East Coast, sailing a wide variety of boats, from high performance dinghies, through to much larger traditional craft.
For many years I worked as a graphic designer and illustrator in Central London.
In addition, I am a former director of a successful yacht chandlery and it was this that brought me to the South Coast.
I remain passionate about the sea : its moods and the depiction of convincing looking water and ever changing light. Having trained as an illustrator, narrative and traditional craft skills are fundamental to my work.
I operate from studios on the South/East Coast, painting, primarily in oil on high quality stretched linen but I also like the spontaneity of watercolour, which was my medium of choice when illustrating books & yachting magazines.
Now, I divide my time between fine art and demonstrating drawing to computer games and animation undergraduates at University of Portsmouth.
I also hold regular master classes in life drawing and teach drawing and painting privately.
I am a member of Artspace Portsmouth, Omega Printmakers and Hampshire Sculpture Trust.
Currently, I am painstakingly restoring a classic wooden yacht and am documenting the process by producing a body of artwork that will be exhibited both in my native East Anglia and on the South Coast.
