I graduated from Reading University with a Fine Art degree specialising in painting.
My professional career was as an art teacher but I always pursued my two obsessions of art and music. At times the problems of balancing career, family and outside interests meant that the time devoted to jazz trumpet pushed the art to the sidelines. Since retiring I’ve been able to concentrate much more on art work, mostly painting and drawing in pens. I’ve also produced a number of figure sculptures in paper and paste as well as some stone carving.
I draw my subject matter from various sources, the music obviously, the natural world, extensive travel and I find that the sculptured figures have a way of gate-crashing into my work. My work is figurative but the subject matter is rarely conventional.
