Statement
Gilly Shurville
I am drawn to vistas and landscapes full of atmospheric light and colour.
I try to convey a sense of the uplifting feelings I experience in these places, through the use of oils and acrylics, sometimes abstractly.
I work from sketches made and occasionally photos taken on my phone whilst out walking in my local area or travelling elsewhere.
Initially, the drawings outline a composition, starting with a thin wash of tonal paint, but once colour is being applied, the work begins to take on a different momentum, and its journey is driven by the impact and mood the hues and brushwork create.
