Statement

I studied botany and zoology at Reading University and biochemistry at Masters level at Kings College London, and this background has influenced my art.

I am fascinated by the way plants mimic animals both in the visual spectrum and in spectra not immediately obvious to man, for example under UV or infared light.

The shape, structure, colour and design of plants has evolved over time to attract or repel animals as they strive to survive and continue the species. It is this interrelationship of design, structure, colour, texture and form that influences my art.

I enjoy experimenting with different materials – wools, dyes and plant tissue – to create different textures and compositions on paper and fabric. I also practice different printing techniques such as, linocut, woodcut and screenprinting.
