Statement
Kate Watkins
I have been producing prints for over 15 years exploring a wide variety of print techniques. From an interest in coastal structures and texture which defined my earlier work I have begun to move towards abstract pieces. Primarily using collagraph & monoprint I create colourful shelters and geometric forms echoing solace, protection and hope. This developed partly as a way to create positive spaces while reconciling with my Fathers dementia diagnosis. The colourful forms which utilise the uplifting and restorative power of colour as intended as meditative spaces in which to take shelter. I aim to to elicit an emotional response through an infinitely varied colour palette which is created through overlapping layers.
