Ruth works predominantly in watercolour and gouache, capturing beautiful fleeting moments of the natural world. Her love of textile design includes translating her ideas onto fabric, by exploring various methods of hand-printing, painting and stitch. Ruth paints daily, observing and recording detailed studies or loose, inky pools of colour that often evoke a feeling flow and energy.
Ruth has a background in printed textile design, creating collections for International fashion and furnishing markets. She graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 1994 and then worked freelance for fashion print studios in London for over 10 years. During this time, she was also commissioned to create furnishing designs for studios based in Leicester. Ruth has also lectured at the University of Portsmouth and is the Course Manager for A-Level Fashion and Textiles at Havant and South Downs College.
In 2019, Ruth and her husband Jean-Paul Lacey set up their design business, ginkgo.design based in Studio 10, Hotwalls Studios, Portsmouth.
